Sustainability at EcoTara

EcoTara grew with the intention of learning & sharing how to nourish mind and body, living in a simple way and love for nature. The organic food we grow, the animals we look after and the people we welcome are a celebration of our shared life-force.

Our organic garden

Our organic garden

We grow our own food. From seeds to plants to tasty vegetables. We try to have a good variety of herbs, vegetables, and roots. We also have fruit trees, most are orange, lemon and olive trees. Planting seeds, nurturing and watching them grow gives us a feeling of accomplishment which is hard to explain. It’s fun work that helps us nourish and maintain our health. It’s also a great way to relax and free your mind. We love to learn from others and exchange knowledge to keep our vegetable garden alive. Products are not to sell, if we have an excess of food we give it to guests, friends, family and of course we feed our animals.
Our little farm

Our little farm

We have several beautiful chickens, 3 roosters, 2 sheeps and a naughty black canary pig, who roam freely in a large fenced-in area. One of the joys of owning animals is watching "Animal TV" as they interact with each other, you, and their environment. When chickens free-range, they are able to do what nature intended them to do. They can scratch and dig in the dirt to find bugs and leaves and to forage for other things to eat – all that scratching, pecking and pooping in the soil does a great job of keeping the dirt loosened, fertilised and aerated. They can run and exercise their wings by flying short distances. They can snooze in the sun or find a nice place to take a dust bath which is essential in controlling parasites and conditioning their skin. This is why we have high quality of eggs, which are also healthier for us.
Our waste, water & electricity

Our waste, water & electricity

To follow sustainable living principles we recycle and separate our waste and invite our guests to help us doing so. Each accommodation has a recycling station to separate plastic, paper, organic and general waste. All organic waste from the property is used to feed our hungry animals, the rest is brought to the central recycle station in the town. Additionally to the shower facilities in our accommodations, we have a solar outdoor shower. The water runs through black tubes in the form of a circle and is placed in the sun to warm up the water as it passes through the pipe. Around the property we have two big water tanks to collect rain water which is used for watering our property and the garden. Solar panels placed on our houses support the reduction of electricity all over EcoTara.

Local community

We are certain that welcoming children of the nearby community in EcoTara will add more value to our project. We have developed a friendship with the people of Fataga and we believe in inviting the local villagers to participate in our projects in order to achieve and sustain real success.
